Winter
Ninth Pass
Winter, Turn 2511
Months 1-3

A drought has lasted for more than a Turn in the Fortian region. Although cold, the weather remains dry, with very little snowfall. The water-level in the lake is low, and the lower caverns are now rationing non-essential water (for bathing, laundry, et cetera).

The state of things.
« on: May 09, 2012, 07:34:10 AM »
It took a few days for word to be confirmed - Groghe was dead.  Haighe was not.  There was some confusion as to what had happened to the rest of the members of Groghe's family.  With memories of Fax still not completely brushed away, many expected the worst, but there were some who said they had been imprisoned, some who said they escaped, some who said they had all been murdered and buried already.  But no one seemed to know for sure.  By morning, the meat of the plan lay plain: Mikhen, the disinherited, had besieged Fort and declared it his own by conquest.

The winter made things seem even cold, even more still and uncertain.  No one was allowed to go beyond the confines of the courtyard, and even then it was only under the strictest supervision.  A few people attempted to escape, were rumored to be caught, and no one was quite sure what happened to them.  Had they been killed or imprisoned?

The days stretched on, the Hold fell into a hush - holding its breath - waiting for release...

OOC: Just a quick update to give people an idea what life is like during the first few weeks of the siege.  Count on the Hold being held until at least the beginning of Month 2, with more updates and RP to come!

After three months besieged - with comings and goings minimal, with people barely able to get into or out of the Hold except under the watchful scrutiny of Mikhen's men - things seemed to be ready to turn a corner.  The Conclave agreed to meet with Mikhen and decide on his case, presumably to legitimize his claim over Fort Hold - in return for sparing the life of his half-brother and returning Fort Hold to something like order.  Oh, to be sure, it would rankle the old men of the Conclave to ratify one such as this, but it was better than creating another Fax, another man that would not be happy with one Hold, but would soon look to their own.

The Conclave would meet on the 1st day of the 5th month.  The question of whether or not that made things better... well.  If Mikhen actually became Lord Fort, would that mean he'd no longer hold the Hold under lock and key?  Would he actually honor his agreement not to harm his half-brother?

In a week - whew! - we'll be wrapping up the Fort Hold side of the plot, and starting to look at how it ripples throughout the region, especially over at Harper Hall.  Part of this will involve a small plotty opportunity for Fort Weyr riders, so keep your eyes peeled!
