...APPEARANCE...Jaetif cuts an imposing figure with his impressive height of six feet and his muscular build, but a look at the laugh-lines around his eyes shows that he is a gentle giant. His hands are rough from working as a tanner, and he is darkly tanned from time spent outside. His hair is jet black and is almost shoulder length. He has warm, dark brown eyes. He always stands up straight, with no slouching, and his appearance is neat and orderly. Jaetif wears plain, practical clothing with little embellishment, and he feels uncomfortable if he has to dress formally for an occasion.
...PERSONALITY...Jaetif is very unassuming. He's one of the least offensive people you'll ever meet. He is quiet and rather shy, and he tends to blend into the crowd. He is soft-spoken, rarely raising his voice or making a scene. He doesn't feel the need to be the center of attention and he is fine with letting others be in the spotlight. He is extremely laid back, and Jaetif generally gets along with everyone. Even if he does dislike someone, he is simply too polite to make it known. It seems that he can always find the good in a person, and he will never spread gossip or say nasty things about others.
Jaetif is also a very hard worker and dedicates himself completely to whatever he gets involved in. He is fiercely loyal and you can always rely on him in a crisis. Dependable and responsible, Jaetif can be counted on to get the job done. He is detail oriented, and enjoys working on intricate projects. Jaetif has general training in the Smith craft but his specialty is working with mechanics, making him an ideal person for the Weyr, repairing and building flamethrowers. Jaetif also likes to experiment with making small mechanical toys as a side hobby.
A surprising thing about him is that he is a bit of a food connoisseur. Jaetif loves to taste-test for the cooks and he also has a big sweet tooth.
Jaetif was born in Fort Hold. His parents had escaped from High Reaches and moved to Fort after Fax took over, and Jaetif was born a few turns later. They never did move back to High Reaches, wanting to start a new life and family in Fort. His father is a Tanner and soon established himself as a respected Crafter. 3 turns later, a baby girl was born. Jaetif and Lidia had a happy childhood, without much drama.
From an early age Jaetif demonstrated an interest and skill with building and designing. He always wanted to know how things worked. When he turned 12, he became a Smith apprentice. Jaetif was a hard worker and stayed out of trouble, sometimes earning him the jibe of "Master's pet." As a teenager, he found his shyness a bit of a detriment, especially when it came to forming the budding romances that his peers seemed so interested in.
The biggest event in Jaetif's life was probably Threadfall. He had never believed the rumors that Thread would return, but there was no denying it when the silvery strands appeared in the sky. He channeled fear into determination, deciding that he would do whatever he could to help Pern. After he walked the tables, he requested a transfer to the Weyr.
