Winter
Ninth Pass
Winter, Turn 2511
Months 1-3

A drought has lasted for more than a Turn in the Fortian region. Although cold, the weather remains dry, with very little snowfall. The water-level in the lake is low, and the lower caverns are now rationing non-essential water (for bathing, laundry, et cetera).

Rumor had it that Wi'sc at least knew his ass from his elbow. As far as bronzeriders went, that qualified him as 'not idiotic.'

    where is that bloody broom
    « on: January 12, 2012, 03:32:45 PM »
It is so bloody cold!  Sorilea thought to herself as she moved across the Bowl.  She wondered if it was still this cold during the spring months what would the temperature be like during summer season.  Probably not warm enough for the former Ista Weyrwomen.   Luckily, her own personal weyr was right next to the hatching grounds so it was plenty warm for the women.

Pausing for a moment, the goldrider pulled her mind out of her darker thoughts and tried to remember what had pulled her out of her warm den and into the cold.  Her mind drew a blank, causing the older women to frown.  “What in the Fanath am I doing out here,” she asked herself.   << You need a broom. >> the silky voice of her gold broke through her mental rant, giving her rider some since of sanity before departing again.  A broom… that’s right… she was trying to get her weyr in some sort of order after 450 turns of neglect.

Once her destination was back in her mind, she turned her body towards the lower caverns in search of her broom.

OCC:  This post is way open.  I just want to try and get a feel for the character.

Taranov liked the lower caverns for multiple reasons. One was the fact there was always work for an able-bodied girl. The other was easily that she could avoid the strange dragonriders from another time. The girl blew a strand of dark hair from her eyes in frustration, running her hand along her forehead. She hadn't been told that Fort was so full of... well, Fortians. She'd assumed that there would be at least a few current time riders; Even though she distrusted them all she vastly preferred the riders from her own time.

Today, she was not in the lower caverns. She was in the bowl, heading back to the lower caverns with dirt covering her hands and face. She'd been hauling out a bit of debris from the lower caverns. Dirty work, but it was satisfying to have something to do. She paused upon hearing an unfamiliar voice, her eyes narrowed.

"Do you need help?" Taranov asked, her voice cold. Usually, she wouldn't have bothered to help someone, but the sooner this Weyr was presentable the better. However, she soon realized who she was speaking to. "Goldrider." She added, growing awkward. She disliked the riders, of course, but a goldrider was not one she wanted to disrespect.

Taranov tried to smile and not look unfriendly, but the expression was a bit... twitchy. She'd never been taught how to hide her feelings, and now she felt beyond awkward. Maybe the goldrider would tell her that no help was needed and send her on her way?

Sorilea’s dark eyes raked up and down the young women in the same cold fashion of the women’s voice before clearly dismissing the girl as someone beneath her.   “I need a broom,” she finally said, “So unless you have a broom hidden in your clothing there I am sure that you can’t help at this very moment.”   Her voice was sharp and spoke of her annoyance in the situation and at her companion’s manner.

She waits a few second so that her first words have time to sink in before she continues on her little “lesson”, “But since you /so/ politely offered in such a warm way then I will I accept your help in finding this Egg forsaken broom.”  What kind of place was this?  She thought to herself as she moved pass the girl and toward the lower caverns.   In her day, women or men that had such a cold and disrespect for the riders that risked everything including their life to keep a person safe wasn’t allowed to stay at the Weyr for very long.

... This was a goldrider? If Taranov was not aware of the fact no one would support her against a gold-rider, she would have scoffed. It seemed to her that this woman had no tact in the least, but Taranov's face slipped into one that was near emotionless. "No, I don't. I wish you luck on finding your broom, gold-rider." Taranov inclined her head, taking a step back. Faranth forbid this woman become Weyrwoman! If she acted so irritable just because someone wasn't particularly warm, Taranov shuddered to think of what she would do to the unfortunate holders.

She had no reason to respect or like this woman, Taranov thought rebelliously. She had not asked them to come forward. Threadfall was dangerous, yes, but surely pern could have pulled through if Lessa had not pulled her brain-numbingly unintelligent stunt!

"I have no idea where the brooms would be. I'm new to this Weyr." Well, it was a half-truth. She had no idea where the brooms were, but she could think of a few areas. But Taranov didn't show that she had lied. "I'm sorry I cannot help you, but maybe one of the other weyrfolk could." If the goldrider didn't call her back, Taranov would bow her head and turn to enter the lower caverns. She needed to get back to work, anyway.

But she mentally made a note to never go  to that particular gold-rider if there was trouble that needed a gold to resolve it.

“Well that makes two of us then,” Sorilea told the… her eyes searched for the knot on the girl’s shoulder.  Candidate?  That surprised the women even more than the gruff nature of the women’s interaction.   How the dragons picked candidates always made her think that those dragons were mad and this case was no different.  “If I didn’t think I was wrong, I would say that you are looking to pick up extra chore duties?”   Pressing her lips together, she tried hard not the glare at the girl too much now.  “Are you at the moment on an errand for the Headwomen?”   If she was, maybe that was the reason for the way that the girl acted.  Maybe she was afraid that she would get in trouble if she took the time to help her.

OOC:  This is really short and I am sorry for that, but I am trying to get a post out before I have to get back to work.
