...PERSONALITY...In general Delcia is a very laid back, even keeled sort of woman. It takes a lot to get her upset or angry, and even when she does, it's a very quiet, personal anger. She doesn't really wear her emotions on her sleeve at all, and more than one person has complained that it is nearly impossible to tell what she's really thinking. That said, she is quick to smile and laugh, and is the type of person it is remarkably easy to talk to. She's a good listener, and does genuinely enjoy trying to help people work through their problems. That said, she can often be a bit too quick to start offering advice, when people sometimes just need to rant.
Privately, Delcia often feels detached from things. It's part of why she can keep such an even keel all the time. It's not that she doesn't let things affect her strongly, they legitimately don't. She tends to try to approach things from a reasoned, logical perspective, which doesn't always work too well when emotions are running high. She's not unemotional, it just takes more to really move her. It also tends to keep her from forming really deep bonds with people. She may have a lot of casual friends, but not very many close ones, and between this and her bond with Yurikath she hasn't had any long term romantic relationships either.
She has very little personal ambition - so far everything she might have wanted has more or less come to her without her having to work for it. Not that she's lazy, she'll work as hard as anyone else, especially when it comes to drills and Threadfall, but the idea of working
harder than needed, or specifically putting herself forward. This would be fine on its own, but she also doesn't understand why others would do those things. Exceedingly ambitious people remind her a bit too much of her mother's constant attempts at social climbing, and she's quick to be judgmental about them because of it.
Delcia takes her Wingsecond position very seriously. She encourages her wingmates to come to her with issues first before kicking things up to the Wingleader, mostly because she's a strong believer in the chain of command. She tries to make sure she's available and seen as sympathetic, though she's not shy to hand out discipline if the situation warrants it. Even then, it tends more towards the 'I am very disappointed in you' rather than anger. About the only thing that will really bring out anger in her is irresponsibility in Threadfall, especially if it leads to injury of dragons or other riders.

Delcia was the second child born into a minor Holder family in Ruatha Hold's territory, and had a pretty average upbringing. Her mother was an irrepressible social climber, but it was mostly Delcia's older sister Aidria that bore the brunt of that pressure, and Aidria seemed to have no problem with their mother's plans for her eventual advantageous marriage. But then Aidria was Searched for Fort Weyr. There was a gold egg on the Sands, or else their mother would never have let her go. But be a goldrider was almost as good a social climb as marrying a Lord Holder! And besides, there was still Delcia she could work out a good match for.
Which might have worked out if Delcia was anything like her older sister. Delcia was far more of her father's daughter, with little patience for her mother's constant nervous fluttering and insistence on 'lady-like' skills of embroidery or fancy cooking. How did such things help with the actual running of a hold? She certainly had no personal ambitions beyond their hold, and little real desire to marry. It was almost a relief when the Searchriders came around again, and Searched her.
The Weyr was a whole new world for Delcia, but she found that she adapted quickly. Aidria was still there as a Candidate, having failed to Impress the gold, and while they'd never been especially close at home, the shared background helped them become closer at the Weyr. When the eggs Hatched, it was Aidria that Impressed, to a delicate little green that Delcia had to admit was a perfect match for her sister. She was left on the Sands, but there was little doubt that she would stay at the Weyr. It suited her far more than home had.
She stood for two more clutches before finally Impressing, to brown Yurikath. Even at that clutch she'd been sure she'd be left standing - Yurikath was both the last dragon to hatch and the last to Impress, mostly because he'd been almost entirely tangled up in his own wings. That rather set the tone for the early part of their weyrling training. It was probably a good thing that Delcia was as easy-going as she was, because Yurikath was a handful. He wasn't bad, not by a long shot. Rather, he was very very awkward and unsure of himself. He was always stumbling and tripping, his wings very often pushing him off-balance. While she was never able to prove it, Delcia was pretty sure some of the other dragons were making fun of Yurikath considering how shy he quickly became.
And then they flew for the first time.
It was like a switch flipped in Yurikath's head during that first unmanned flight. Suddenly those wings that had always been giving him trouble made
sense! He quickly became one of the strongest flyers in the class, and while he was still pretty awkward on the ground, he rapidly gained a new sense of self-confidence. By the time they graduated training, they were a strong pair and quickly integrated into their Wing.
Delcia and Yurikath flew as solid wingriders for several Turns. In all honesty, she never really expected to be anything other than a wingrider, at least not until the Pass was over at the earliest. But Thread has a way of messing up the best laid plans, and when Threadscore permanently grounded the Wing's current Wingsecond, she was tapped to replace him.
She was initially happy when the Pass ended - while she'd been fortunate enough not to lose anyone close to her, she'd seen enough people die and get injured that the idea of that no longer being a danger was very appealing. However, she soon found she missed having a
purpose anymore. Sweepriding and drills just weren't the same. So when the decision to make the jump forward to the Ninth Pass came, she was a strong supporter of the idea.
...DRAGON NAME...Yurikath
...DRAGON COLOR...Brown
...DRAGON AGE...14
...DRAGON INFORMATION...Yurikath is a medium sized brown, with slightly longer than average wings. He's very angular, especially his muzzle, which gives him a rather severe appearance. Color-wise he's a rich, reddish-brown, with very slightly darker stripes all over, giving him a slightly brindled appearance.
While he's not as awkward as he use to be, Yurikath is not a graceful dragon on the ground. He might not trip and stumble any more, but he's just...
bigger than he's comfortable being. This all goes away the moment he takes flight. All dragons can fly of course, but few seem quite at home in the air as Yurikath does. He's obviously not as agile as the smaller greens and blues, but there is a grace to his flight that can be an absolute pleasure to watch.
He's grown beyond his weyrling shyness and lack of self confidence. He had to, or they would never have made Wingsecond. Still, he's not the most outgoing of dragons, and he is quick to pull in on himself if he thinks someone is upset at him, especially Delcia. Maybe because of this, he's very good with younger dragons, especially those in his Wing. He'd probably make a very good Weyrlingmaster's dragon, if Delcia had any ambitions in that direction. But she doesn't, and Yurikath has very few ambitions of his own.
