Winter
Ninth Pass
Winter, Turn 2511
Months 1-3

A drought has lasted for more than a Turn in the Fortian region. Although cold, the weather remains dry, with very little snowfall. The water-level in the lake is low, and the lower caverns are now rationing non-essential water (for bathing, laundry, et cetera).

    Rules & Regulations
    « on: December 14, 2011, 09:49:56 AM »
    1. Follow the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Be polite to other players because you want to be treated politely. Don't call names, flame, etc.
    2. Don't power-post other characters. That is, don't pose the actions or reactions of another character without expressly asking permission first. To give you some ideas:
      • Do post "Jim-bob moved as if to strike Suzy."
      • Don't post "Jim-bob smacked Suzy in the face."
      • Do hit up Suzy for some RP about juicy gossip.
      • Don't post that Suzy spilled her guts about a secret that she's been keeping unless that thread actually happened.
    3. Don't be a twink. Twinks subscribe to the "to win, I need to kill" philosophy - their characters are the bestest, brightest, strongest, most amazing characters. Your character cannot and will not win all the time.
    4. Limit advertising to the advertising board only.
      • No advertising in the chat.
      • No advertising in your signature or profile.

    Activity Requirements
    « Reply #1 on: December 14, 2011, 09:50:53 AM »
    1. If you're going to be absent more often than normal (e.g., you normally post a few times a day but will be gone for a long weekend), please post a note in the absences forum so people know what's going on. That's just courteous.
    2. There are three tiers of characters on this game, to make it viable for people with varying levels of availability to play:
      • Tier I: The highest tier of characters are those that are integral to the ongoing momentum of the site. They must be posted at least once a week. They include:
        • Goldriders (Maximum of one per player)
        • Wingleaders
        • Weyrlingmaster
        • Weyrleader
        • Headwoman
        • Master Crafters
        • Lord & Lady Holder
        • Plot-specific characters as noted/needed
      • Tier II: Characters of consequence. They must be posted at least once every other week. They include:
        • Wingseconds
        • Assistant Weyrlingmasters
        • Assistant Headwomen
        • Blooded Characters
      • Candidates: There is a specific post regarding Candidacy & Hatchings (click). Please see that for more information.
      • Tier III: Any other rank not listed above. There is no activity requirement.
    3. Tier I and tier II characters will be written out of the story by staff in the event that they do not meet their posting requirements. This is not to try to make you jump through hoops; it's to keep the story moving apace. We need these characters to be movers and shakers, and they won't be if they aren't being played, alas.
    4. Wingleaders will be asked to join a "Threadfall" rotation to post an open Threadfall thread on a quarterly basis. Threadfall posts can include the pre-Fall, post-Fall, or "actual" Threadfall, depending on what the Wingleader thinks would be most engaging. Threadfalls will be run during the months of February, May, August, and November. The rotation will be posted in the Plotting forum. If a Wingleader cannot post their scheduled turn, they should ensure their turn is covered by another member of their Wing (e.g., a Wingsecond). Any missed turns will result in a review of the player's position and possible removal from the rank. Posts should begin within the first week of the scheduled quarter.
    5. All players must post at least once a month (on at least one character), or your account will be marked as inactive. If you're going to be gone more than a month, you must post in the AFK forum, or we'll assume you've wandered off.
    6. All returning/recreated characters will be subject to the same Open/Closed Positions as new characters.
      • If your characters have been archived (moved to the Graveyard), you will need to read the Closed Position post; if their rank (dragon color, etc.) is currently closed, you will not be able to recreate them until it has been reopened. You may also lose your face claim if someone else takes it.
    7. All players who do not have a character approved within two months of registration and/or do not have a character approved and have not logged in within the last month will have their accounts purged. (This means that, even if you login everyday, if you've never created a character, we will delete your account after two months.)

Edit on 1/24/12 - Corrected the information for posting in the AFK forum to the right link + "more than a month" verbiage.
Edit on 5/30/12 - Added information about returning/archived characters and closed positions.
Edit on 10/16/12 - Added info about the "inactive" status of players + info about accounts with no approved characters being purged.
Edit on 1/7/13 - Added info about the Wingleader threadfalls + info about losing face-claims if you are marked inactive.

    SubAccounts Walkthrough
    « Reply #2 on: December 14, 2011, 11:20:52 AM »
    New SubAccounts
    1. At the top of the forum, click on "Profile" and go down to "Account Settings."
    2. Under "Modify Profile," choose "Manage SubAccounts."
    3. Click on the "Create / Link" button.
    4. Fill out the information for the new account.
      • For the name, be sure you use correct capitalization.
      • If you are playing a male dragonrider, enter your "pre-Impression" name here. You will update your display name afterward. (You can't use apostrophes as account names, so we'll fix that later.)
      • Enter a password that you will remember. Although you will never actually be logging into or out of the forum as this character, you will need it to make any profile changes later on.

    Updating a SubAccount
    1. At the top of the page, from the "Switch Account" dropdown, choose your character. You will now be logged in/working as that character.
    2. At the top of the page, choose "Profile" and "Forum Profile" from the menu.
    3. Under "Modify Profile," you can update the profile information. Please leave date of birth blank. The forum software will not get your account information right.
    4. If you are playing a male dragonrider, this is where you go to "Forum Profile" and "Account Settings." There, you will see an option called "Name." You can enter your post-Impression name (with the apostrophe) here, and your account will show as "N'ame" across the forum.
    5. Once you have made your updated, make sure you go back to the "Switch Account" dropdown and select your main login again.

    Posting With a SubAccount
    1. When posting a new post, reply, or quick reply, there's a dropdown that says "Use account." Choose the appropriate login.
    2. If you mistakenly post as the wrong character, you can correct it!
      • At the top of the forum, from the "Switch Account" dropdown, choose the account that "owns" the post currently.
      • Navigate to the post and choose "Modify."
      • In the modify/edit page, choose the correct account from the "Use account" option and save your changes.
    3. Make sure you switch back to your main account from the "Switch Account" dropdown.

    Rated R
    « Reply #3 on: December 14, 2011, 11:24:22 AM »

Due to the nature of the play on this site, the general rating is going to be closer to "R" than "PG-13." To give you an idea, here's what the Motion Picture Association of America has to say about an R rating:

An R-rated motion picture, in the view of the Rating Board, contains some adult material. An R-rated motion picture may include adult themes, adult activity, hard language, intense or persistent violence, sexually-oriented nudity, drug abuse or other elements, so that parents are counseled to take this rating very seriously. Children under 17 are not allowed to attend R-rated motion pictures unaccompanied by a parent or adult guardian. Parents are strongly urged to find out more about R-rated motion pictures in determining their suitability for their children. Generally, it is not appropriate for parents to bring their young children with them to R-rated motion pictures.

We do not offer a "private" forum or an "over 18" forum or anything of the sort. If your roleplay is moving into a realm where it might make people uncomfortable or is beyond the ratings as listed above, please move it off-site (email, Google docs, IM, whatever), and do not repost it here.
