Winter
Ninth Pass
Winter, Turn 2511
Months 1-3

A drought has lasted for more than a Turn in the Fortian region. Although cold, the weather remains dry, with very little snowfall. The water-level in the lake is low, and the lower caverns are now rationing non-essential water (for bathing, laundry, et cetera).

Sooo I have a Bitran cardshark type charrie and I was wondering if in general it might be a good idea to get everyone on the same page as far as how to play/basics of dragon poker.

There are a couple different guides floating around the nets, including this and this, with differing instructions and card types. I was wondering if there is a specific one we should use or if maybe we wanna figure one out for here especially?

    That is all.

To be honest, the only version I ever knew much about was the one hosted on the kadanzer.org page (because I used to play with that silly bit of code on PernMUSH all those years ago), and I always thought - for RP purposes - that it might be making things harder than necessary to "retool" a deck of cards.

When I play, I always just hand-wave the issue of suits and the number of cards, and play with the standard hearts, clubs, diamonds, and spades, but substitute the face cards for Dragons, Weyrleaders, Holders, and Crafters.  Poker in general is something most players know little enough about that I never bothered adding in the extra element of difficulty to try to play "real" dragonpoker.  It's kind of like how sometimes I slip and use "years" instead of "Turns" or have characters that still say things like "hell" and "heaven;" I never fuss over it, and just assume that - ICly - they probably used the right term and I just translated it badly.  That is - the characters are probably playing "real" dragonpoker, but it confuses the hell out of me, so I just use poker I'm actually familiar with. ;)

That said... if you're making cards the focus of your thread, you might want to note somewhere which version of the rules you're using.  I don't feel like we need to adopt formal rules for the site - unless it becomes an issue - so much as be sure everyone in a thread knows "hey, these are the rules we're using in this thread." :)

    Work for you?
