Winter
Ninth Pass
Winter, Turn 2511
Months 1-3

A drought has lasted for more than a Turn in the Fortian region. Although cold, the weather remains dry, with very little snowfall. The water-level in the lake is low, and the lower caverns are now rationing non-essential water (for bathing, laundry, et cetera).

Bowl / ichor, toil, tears and sweat
« on: June 18, 2012, 12:01:49 AM »
It was a glorious spring day, a little brisk to be sure, and yet the knowledge that thread would not be falling on Fort's protectorate today made it feel warmer to L'sant at least.

Can we swim after? Jsarth was relaxing in the bowl, where L'sant was to hold a dragonhealing lesson, with several weyrbrats bothering him. Not that he minded, the blue enjoyed the attention and liked watching the younger ones.

Of course. L'sant agreed affectionately as he checked the long tables that held various equipment necessary for the task at hand. Satisfied that things were ready, the dragonhealer stretched, popping joints. Soon the students would arrive, as well as a few special guests, and the fun would begin.

Or the disaster. Jsarth chimed in cheerfully.

...PERSONALITY...
Cheerful, determined, friendly and  passionate; all these words could describe L'sant and if they're not good enough for you, with a wink and a smile he'll tell you a few more. He doesn't believe in false modesty but neither is he a braggart or one to bluster. He doesn't take himself too seriously and is constantly smiling and laughing, except when his blue Jsarth has run him ragged from chasing greens too often, in which case sleepy yawns and bumping into things is far more likely. Likewise when he has been run off his feet seeing to a sick or injured dragon.

L'sant is a sucker for a pretty face and easily manipulated by the fairer sex, though somewhat of a committment-phobe and no woman (or man for that matter) has yet managed to pin him down. He's a compassionate individual and an active listener, and very rarely gets angry. He's not one to start fights, being a fairly gentle soul, which makes his knack for dueling and teaching others the tricks of the trade all the more unusual.

He is tall and muscular, rather physically imposing though his personality belies this. His warm smile is usually present and he doesn't have a deceptive or ambitious bone  in his remarkable body.

Brought up in the Weyr and groomed for bronze by a strict father, Lasant always expected to impress a dragon, but he was never particularly concerned about what colour. Why would he be? Have you SEEN how magnificent they all are? Like jewels glinting in the sun, the lot of them.  With a mother who served as dragonhealer, his early years were spent running and fetching for her and generally learning and absorbing much about dragonhealing lore and dragon anatomy and physiology. This helped him become even more appreciative of all dragon colours and sizes, and he had a knack for it from a young age.

He stood for the first time when he was sixteen but didn't impress. But that didn't matter, not to Lasant, who was willing to bide his time, knowing that the right dragon would hatch when it was time and not before. He finally did impress at age eighteen, the second time he stood, and to his father's disappointment and his mother's delight the dragon that chose him was the lusty blue Jsarth, hide the same bright blue as Lasant's eyes.

The newly named L'sant and his blue dragonet Jsarth quickly got into the swing of things at Fort Weyr. Weyrling training took up every moment, spare or otherwise, and the pair lived for it and dreamed of their first flights, flames and threads.  Perhaps the most memorable moment for L'sant, second only to the impression itself, was the first time his young dragon chased a green and caught her. Both Jsarth and L'sant became regular fixtures during chases, Jsarth always giving chase if they were at the Weyr when a green was rising, regardless of the gender of the rider. L'sant would probably say he has an attraction for women over men, but during a mating flight, anything goes and having a lusty dragon easily translates to having a lusty rider.

He continued to help his mother with injured or sick dragons as required, his early years learning these skills coming into play, and he officially took his place as an assistant dragonhealer at Fort. It didn't take long for Jsarth's sensitivity to candidates became notable too, and while L'sant enjoyed a chase as much as anyone, it was often a relief to be sent away on search and L'sant enjoyed his role as a searchrider almost more than he and Jsarth like fighting Thread. The satisfaction of seeing candidates that they searched make an impression is high on L'sant's list of favourite activities, right up there with helping to heal other dragons, something he always makes himself available for after Threadfall.

The jump was traumatic for both dragon and rider, and he was run ragged providing help for the exhausted and damaged.  His parents were both lost in the jump along with their dragons,  a gold and a bronze.  With a younger brother and sister at Fort Weyr who both successfully made the jump, L'sant still feels at home and not overly displaced after the jump, though he very much mourns the loss if his parents and of dragons and riders that did not make it.  He feels that no matter what, he's where he is supposed to be. Jsarth lost several clutchmates and the pair are more determined than ever to do their part for Fort Weyr.

...DRAGON NAME...
Jsarth
...DRAGON COLOR...
Blue =#120A8F
...DRAGON AGE...
14 Turns (Turn 2044, Eighth Pass)

...DRAGON INFORMATION...
Jsarth is a sleek 30 feet, in a striking ultramarine blue, smooth in coloration from snout to tail, with a slightly deeper blue on the belly and wing joints. He is very agile and possesses the endurance to last a threadfall, presuming he isn't injured in any serious way. He has a few threadscars now, but rather than mar the deep blue of his hide the scarring simply lends a touch of the grandiose to him and he often plays up any injuries he does get, as he enjoys being fussed over, and will fuss over others in return. He's rather good at explaining what needs to happen to any dragons which L'sant is helping to heal, but he is by no means able to control or master golds or bronzes.

Swimming is Jsarth's absolute favourite pastime and he has been known to take anyone who happens to be riding him -regardless of their importance- for a surprise dunk and L'sant doesn't always manage to warn them in time. Jsarth is a bit of a showoff, but not particularly disciplined. He dislikes drills and gets bored easily on watch, though he finds the healing stuff that L'sant does rather fascinating and likes to watch that.  He is a lusty blue, constantly chasing greens to the point where it can be rather exhausting for L'sant and provides a reason to get him out of the Weyr as often as possible.

This dragon is no great thinker, always one to live in the here and now, but he has an affinity for candidates and became an obvious choice for a searchdragon rather early on. He also rather likes carrying passengers, and meeting new people and other dragons. He is in fact rather playful, and can often be found with a crowd of weyrbrats underfoot. He enjoys fighting Thread and is a reliable dragon to have on a wing.
