Ninth Pass Winter, Turn 2511 Months 1-3
A drought has lasted for more than a Turn in the Fortian region. Although cold, the weather remains dry, with very little snowfall. The water-level in the lake is low, and the lower caverns are now rationing non-essential water (for bathing, laundry, et cetera).

Reply to the thread of the adoptable character form provided. For more information about adoptables and the form, please see this thread.
Reply to this thread using the form there. A staff member will move your character's bio into the Want Ads forum, and your character will be unapproved from play. Make sure you PM Oracle so she can add the subAccount to the Adoptable placeholder. If you change your mind, please reply to the character's adoption thread, and staff will reactivate the character.
No. If you truly don't wish to use a face claim, you may replace the section in the application where an image would go with a (two-paragraph minimum) description of your character. If you choose to use a PB, you are still welcome to add in a written description.
No*. We ask that you self-limit. Don't take more characters than you can actually play, and we'll be happy. * There is a one-per-player limit for goldrider characters. Because they are both rare and sought after, this limit is inflexible.
Currently, no. Crafters who accept Search officially step outside their Craft during Candidacy, and - because of the political climate - actually are likely to be removed from their Craft altogether. Currently, Harpers and Healers are de-knotted by the Craftmaster if they accept Search, and the sentiment among the other Crafts seems to be following suit.
ICly, there is still some resentment among many Halls and individual Crafters over the disappearance of the dragons at the beginning of the Eighth Interval. This has led to tension between the Weyrs and the Halls, which has made the Crafts loathe to allow riders to take up their roles as Crafters after Impression.
Riders who Impress may still serve the Weyr as unofficial members of their Craft, such as a weyrsinger - a dragonrider who serves unofficially as a Harper at the Weyr. Former Healers may also be called upon to administer first aid, for example, or former Weavers may still knit or mend.
Duties as a dragonrider during a Pass, however, take precedence over any duties as a Crafter, which further complicates the question of the plausibility of Craft-Riders.
Note that the possibility of Craft-riders is being explored through IC events. It may or may not come to fruition.
Not really. You may be able to Impress a firelizard on-camera or win one through an event, but they are not available for new characters. Neither are whers available for play. Other types of pets - small mammals (cats, dogs, rats, etc.), birds of prey, etc. - will not be common. If your character has a good reason in their history to have one, we may permit it, but chances are that we'll ask you to exclude that portion. The exceptions are: - Lower caverns staff who serve the purpose of hunting tunnelsnakes; they may have a feline, terrier-like dog, or ferret for this purpose.
- Herders or stablehands may have a runner.
No.
Just no.
There are loads of semi- and non-canon sites out there where you can play mutations. Please don't ask for one here.
No. To make life easier, no characters from the books may be played as PCs, nor may anyone directly related to them be played.
The only exceptions to this may be children of Lord Holders, since we are using the book-canon Lords and Ladies from the Ninth Pass, and their progeny will naturally inherit the Holds.
No. You should fill out any applicable sections - e.g., Candidate, Dragonrider, et cetera. You do need to provide at least three paragraphs for personality and history, but you are welcome to leave out the Strengths/Weaknesses and Loves/Hates sections, provided you still create a balanced character.
Yes and no. For most characters, there's no particular post requirement. You can post as often or as little as you want to, provided your character isn't integral to the continued momentum of the site. More important characters are required to post within certain guidelines. Read the activity requirements for the gritty details.
Yes. Women may Impress any color but bronze. Men may Impress any color but gold. Check Dragon Colors post for more info.
The short answer: no. The long answer: not really. If you read through Dragon Colors, you'll see a blurb at the bottom that talks about sexuality and Impression.
Depending on the type of promotion sought, you may either need to contact another player or one of the game staff. Here are the ways to go about it: - Wingsecond, Assistant Headwoman, Assistant Weyrlingmaster: Contact the player of the "next level" rank - e.g., a Wingsecond would contact a Wingleader - to let them know about your request. Positions such as this are ultimately at the discretion of the player of the ranking character, and staff will only intervene if specifically requested.
- If the person you need is currently NPC (e.g., there is no Headwoman right now), please contact staff by posting in the Plotting forum.
- Crafters & Dragonhealers: Contact staff by posting in the Plotting forum.
- Wingleader, Weyrlingmaster, Headwoman, Weyrleader, Weyrwoman: These positions will largely be determined by staff. However, we will work with the players impacted (e.g., Weyrwoman's player regarding a Weyrleader) to try to help make things happen smoothly and for fun. If you're interested in being ICly promoted to one of these ranks and it is currently available, feel free to PM Oracle, Melissa, and Tegz; we will note your interest when the time comes to fill the role.
The rank you want isn't listed here? Feel free to assume it's available and RP around it, or - if in doubt - contact staff by posting in the Plotting forum.
The easiest way to do this is to use our Dragon Speech Colorizer (click), which will give you the bbcode that you can enter into your post. Keep in mind that this may make your post lengths crazy-long, since each letter of the post gets a different hex color. Also, please be sure you have a high contrast between your background color and your text colors. The whole point is to ensure that people are able to read the text by putting a background color behind it.
If you are interested in running a Flight for your green (or gold) dragon, please read the procedure below. - No more than one Flight can be reserved in any 14 day period.
- To reserve a date, please post in the Flight Reservation Thread using the appropriate form.
- A member of staff will add your reservation to the calendar (which shows up in the plotting forum) for 14 days.
- You may start your Flight thread any time during that 14 day period. Keep in mind, your 14 day reservation is not necessarily the start date of your Flight.
- Example: If you request to reserve February 1st, you will be reserving February 1st-15th; if you choose not to start your Flight thread until February 14th, your reservation will still expire on the 15th, and another Flight may start as early as the 16th.
- It behooves you to start your Flight early, and to reserve your dates early, but Staff is not responsible for reminding you or other people about your Flight.
- If you do not take advantage of your reservation window, you cannot start your Flight without making another reservation. Do not start your Flight outside your reservation window.
- For greenriders, you may have one Flight every 3 RL months.
- For goldriders, you must have permission to have a Flight from staff.
- You are welcome to run a "closed" green Flight with up to two male participants (chasers) without reserving it or clearing it with staff. You may not, however, run an open Flight or invite more than two chasers.
- This is not to try to deter you from having pre-determined or personal plots involving Flights. This is just to make sure that people aren't "competing" for active male dragon participants. We want to make sure everyone has a good time.

Please note that firelizard Flights do not need to be reserved. However, you must clear any firelizard Flights with staff first (since we need to limit the number of firelizards available).
We're going to try different methods until we settle on one that works best for us and the other players. The goal is to make them fun and lively, avoiding making them drag out too long or rush by too fast. Please read the topic about Hatchings & Candidacy for more information.
Try changing your theme to "Euphoria - Accessibility." This theme exists for people who find the sudden change in background colors too jarring or distracting.
Sometimes, even after getting approved, it can feel a little like a character is lost in the shuffle. If you're looking to get started on the RP, try a few things: - Join any open threads. We try to keep a list of open, joinable threads at the top of the forum, so please feel free to drop a character into those any time.
- Post in the Plotting forum. Let people know a little of what you might want to join, what your character can bring to RP, how to get things started, and you might be surprised what cooks up.
- Join Thread Roulette. A random pairing may be just the thing to spark your character!
If you've been marked as inactive, it's for one of two reasons: - You missed one of our very very very rare head-counts.
- You have not posted on at least one account within the last month. (See the Activity Requirements for details.)
When you're marked as inactive, your account and subAccounts remain, but they do not show up on the Members page. This is just so staff can have a true idea how many players are around actively. We'd be happy to have you back! Please keep in mind that you will be subject to the character restrictions when it comes to reactivating your characters. (See the Activity Requirements for details.) You will also need to go through the process of activating your account again, as you did when initially registering for the forum. To do so, visit this page and fill in the required info. If you need help, please feel free to jump in the Shoutbox and let us know your old user name; we can resend the activation link.
Because we use SubAccounts - an account per character - it can be hard to track what threads you're currently in, since they're spread across numerous logins. The bookmarks aim to make it easier to track your RP. When you join a thread (or create one) as any character, you can add it to the list of bookmarks that your main/OOC login tracks. Just be sure you are logged in as your main account from the dropdown at the top of the page, then go to the thread and click "Add Bookmarks." You can then go to your profile and choose "My Bookmarks" (or go straight to the bookmarks page) and see a list of all your current RP, including the latest post made in the thread. When you're done with a thread, you can remove it from your bookmarks page.
Just what they seem like: Active players have the ability to "like" a post. Which means, er, that they liked it.
There's no criteria for what posts you can/can't like. There's no limit on how many you can/can't like. You can like every post you read, for all anyone cares, but - generally - it's for posts that you found funny, insightful, lyrical, etc. Posts that stood out in some way.
We don't accept characters younger than 16, so the minimum age for Candidacy is 16. The upper age for most people is 23; if you have an exceptional reason to want to push that, we may allow characters as old as 25 with stellar applications.
There's not a set one. Using fuzzy time, the forum will be updated to a new season every 1-2 RL months. This post will tell you a little more about the Pernese calendar. Players are free to start threads any time during the currently posted IC season, giving people the chance to play numerous threads without having to adhere to a strict IC:OOC time ratio. Seasons will typically change about every 1-2 RL months, but may speed up at times if there are no plots that will be affected, or slow down at times if there are still plots afoot. Keep an eye tuned to the sidebar and the Announcements forum for updates.
There isn't one. People can post as short or as long as they deem fit, so long as the post has some kind of substance to it. If your post doesn't contribute anything to the thread, reconsider it. Otherwise, post away.
